Finally they`re back again! With their first maxi ("O-Ton Left") about five years ago - which was actually our second release - Swimmingpool presented a club-hit of the type "never heard" that was always a blueprint demonstrating what Combination Records stands for: an independent concept of club music representing its own attitude - and not a label-sound - apart of predominating hypes and sound-preferences and above all never forgets its history. In the case of "O-Ton Left" it`s the sound-world of drum&bass in connection with a dubby kick of minimal techno. Their subsequent album "Anything that doesn`t move" was a great success among audience and critics, because they were not swimming on the spot in their pool but were trying to fathom many areas of the pool. It was "a dream in dub" during which you never really could know which of their influence was momentarily active. Now they are returning with two new tracks and it`s some kind of a comeback if you haven`t published anything for two years. The good thing is that Swimmingpool were not obliged to react to anything, they had the oppurtunity for a new start. That`s what they like best - and you can hear it.
It starts with "Black Barry" and sounds like the reinvention of electronic northern soul. With a beat that contains disco as well as house and which is being carried by a walking bass and this beautiful rustling sound-plains. As it`s always the case with SMPL, their sound-selection is surprising and unusual. The dub is having a break and the soul needs no vocals. Lipstick-kisses everywhere while this winters summer-hit is playing. It`s good that inside the club the sun is shining most of the time - house music is going to be huge and Swimmingpool will be there.
On the flip side ("Carpet Sweeper") swimmingpool is re-sampling its former approach whith those measured harmonies - only to start rocking more steady than ever before. The track for the peak hidden on the B-side: you don`t have to go for one side, you surely can play both of them.
The new Swimmingpool is twinkling in the sun, still hasn`t got anything to do with the open sea but is promising drinks with cocktail umbrellas and maybe a pleasent conversation once again.
